March 24: Orioles (0) – Mets (1)
BRob Baseball
BRob played, and his hitting average decreased – ooops! Is it boredom with spring training, frustration with the trade issues, or . . . what? For more information, please visit here. Here’s some words about his frustration.

Doing two bootleg summaries instead. I’m going on a business trip soon so I won’t be baking for a while.
Pearl Jam Bootleg
Columbus, Ohio, June 24, 2003. You can download it from post #8, but I wouldn’t waste your time. There was an unpleasant edge to the energy.
Since it is a setlist from 2003 you can see how it morphed into the 2006 setlists with the new record released in 2006. Can’t Keep sounds really good. Daughter is a little weak, and there isn’t a tag. I asked other Pearl Jam fans if tags started later than 2003, but they have been going on for YEARS! So, it’s odd that there wasn’t a tag. Tags are crowd favorites, and creates a relationship with the band and the crowd. Makes you wonder what was going on, eh? I think there was a flood in Cincy before that, and maybe a concert was cancelled (?)
Nice guitar solo on Save You. I wish I saw more of the tour that supported Riot Act. There’s a lot of good concert songs on that record. Eddie’s voice is not full, not completely weak, but it’s like he’s not trying too hard. Was he sick? The crowd sound doesn’t come through too well. There is a Mikeness in EvenFlow which wakes up the concert. Thank gawd for Corduroy. See, it’s later in the setlist compared to the 2006 setlists. Eddie isn’t talking as much. Mike cleans up the energetic mess. Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town – Where’s the crowd? Eddie screwed up Red Mosquito. There is some crowd embrace, but it’s the worst Red Mosquito so far. Eddie sings Me-oh-mi-oh – we’re stuck in Ohio. Hints of Chrissie Hynde? During Rearview Mirror there is a crazy bandness jam. There is a shout out for the BuzzCocks, and a little Rolling Stone improv in Not for You. After Do the Evolution I heard the crowd through the bootleg. During Jeremy there is a crowd-Eddie interaction. Crowd was appreciative during the introductions. I didn’t hear a strong BOOOOM during Boom’s introduction so maybe it didn’t catch, yet. After a little while there is Yellow Ledbetter, and Eddie said, You can thank Mr. Stone Gossard for this one. Eddie really screwed that version up, and I didn’t think it was possible to screw up Yellow Ledbetter. I mean who knows the words?
Perth, Australia, November 25, 2006. You can download it from post #7. Whoa! They start with Go! Eddie sounded good. There goes Mike! Crowd embrace, and solo crowd during Animal. Crowd clapping during Corduroy. Nice Mike solo – complete, but not adventurous. Severed Hand with more adventurous Mikeness. There’s an echo when Eddie talks. Like a stadium echo. Kindof cool. Hasn’t come through before. Adds a little uniqueness to the bootleg, but it must have been annoying to try to talk and not overcrowd the echo. Eddie talks about the beautiful sky, throughout the bootleg, and he compliments the crowd. There is strong Eddie voice during Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town, and loud crowd embrace. Kudos to Perth! WorldWideSuicide was energetic. Eddie was worried his throat was going. He said, Help me out if you can. Feel Free, before In Hiding. I thought he sounded good especially after listening to Columbus 03
EvenFlow started sharp and fast. Nice crowd embrace. Nice band synergy as Mike plays solo and the crowd embraces the song. There goes Matt! EvenFlow into Daughter. Very nice, and nice crowd embrace. Nice crowd – can’t be said enough. Call and response between crowd and Eddie. Oh my, it’s U! Crowd embrace during Jeremy. Big Wave! Eddie remarks how in their 15 years they can’t remember a more beautiful night. Eddie helps a man named Damien propose to his girlfriend! Ohmygawd! Isn’t that dreamy awwwwwww! Then he goes into Throw Your Arms Around Me. Considering the beautiful night and the proposal, what a beautiful relevant song. I wish for the couple all joy and Pearl Jam! Nice crowd embrace.
Nice crowd during Last Kiss. Crowd knew Betterman with call and response. Crowd embrace during Black. Crowd embrace and Mikeness during Alive. Why Go had electric energy. The crowd knows it. A lot of energy for so late in the concert. It makes me wonder again if encores are created separately from the main setlists. Encores are a reflection of how the band feels the crowd responded to the main setlist. A lot of love from Eddie. I’m sure I wrote something incredibly witty, but I can’t read my handwriting
Echo during I Got You. The original is better, but a good effort. Blood! So late, but lots of energy, and echo. Pretty cool.
Baseball Musings
BRob Baseball
I’ve changed the design of this blog because I’m frustrated with the shenanigans of the Cubs/Orioles GMs. The Yankees are my favorite team, and have been for a while.
Well, then why BRob? Well, BRob and I have something in common. To know that someone like him exists is to know that I can do things I didn’t think possible! One day one day . . .
I wish I knew of someone like him when I was ten. However, better late than never! Wilma Rudolph was a major source of inspiration growing up because she started with a medical issue, also. My hero was Elizabeth Blackwell, though. Yippee for the inspired ones and the ones who inspire!
Biscotti
At least I’m thinking about them!
Pearl Jam Bootleg
Actually, just a heads up that Pearl Jam is going to tour. They’re going to MSG! I plan on seeing them at the Verizon Center in DC.
March 19: Orioles (3) – Cardinals (12)
BRob Baseball
I’m not sure how he did, but it doesn’t look like most did that well. You can find the recap here. With good reason fans of the Cubs are laughing at Any McPhail and Jim Hendry. The on-going process of this almost-not-really trade doesn’t seem professional – stringing along not just one player, but many players from both camps.
Biscotti
Well, brownies again, actually. Same recipe as last post, but without the white chocolate chips, and walnuts. It’s from the King Arthur Flour Cookie Companion, and they are called the On-the-Fence Brownies. It was a co-workers birthday and I thought he would appreciate brownies more. Although I have cake flour I wasn’t able to rush a cake together. My other co-workers created a card with stamp-pad-imprints of our thumbprints that we turned into dogs and lions and cats Ohmy!
Pearl Jam Bootleg
Albany, New York, May 12, 2006. You can download it here in post #4. The crowd was ready from the getgo. Severed Hand sounded really good. Go Mikey Go! Eddie spoke a lot before Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town. Eddie sounded good. The crowd was tracking along right with the band. For Given to Fly there was a lot of energy from Mike, Matt and the crowd. There was a crowd embrace through the bootleg on the fullest notes. I was singing along right with it
Eddie talked before Red Mosquito. EvenFlow had a nice crowd/band experience shine through the bootleg. Nice kudos from Stone to Matt. Nice crowd presence call and response for Daughter with the Another Brick in the Wall tag. Crowd sounded like they were getting tired during Jeremy. Before the encore Eddie said, Some of the people up front . . . I see the same ******* people everywhere we go! Eddie describes the process of setlist making and calls the most avid fans freaks, but it’s meant as a compliment.
I wish I could see You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away live. The crowd was right there tracking with the band. Satan’s Bed is not the best concert song. It doesn’t translate well for the bootleg as it seems a little chaotic. This one’s for the freaks Eddie said before heading into Rats. I like Rats
However, it seems that the bandmembers weren’t on the same page with the start (?)
I like the groovy beginning to Porch. Porch is a great song to zone to and let the sound just carry you around. It’s an inside-a-very-fast-car song, except when it’s time for a call and response. Crowd missed a solo, but made up nicely in Last Kiss. Sad has a nice tempo for the end of a concert. There was a slight screw up during Crazy Mary, there was a crowd embrace, a little weak. The guitar sounded a little off during the beginning of Alive. The crowd didn’t take the cue to sing, at least as evidenced by the bootleg production. There was more crowd embrace at the end. Chaotic finish. All instruments in different directions. The chant was there. Eddie said You’re Great!, Albany! Interesting, night, eh?
This bootleg was recommended, and it’s worthy of a recommendation. However, after typing my notes it seems that it definitely wasn’t spot on, eh?
March 18: Orioles (2) – Twins (4)
BRob Baseball
BRob didn’t play, and he’s still an Oriole.

Actually, brownies. I use the On the Fence Brownies recipe from the King Arthur Flour Cookie Companion, which is my favorite cookie cookbook. I don’t add as much salt in my recipe. For this version I included white chocolate chips, and walnuts. I would have added pecans, but I didn’t have enough. I was going to use the white chocolate chips for a biscotti recipe, and the walnuts for a different biscotti recipe, but it just seemed like a brownie type of day. Good thing I didn’t give these away. The bag of shelled walnuts included bits of shell. Time to shell my own!
Pearl Jam Bootleg
Adelaide #1, Australia, November 21, 2006. You can download it here in post #7. This setlist was created by Stone. Yippee for Stone! Started with Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town. Eddie sang, All the changes taking place, here in Adelaide, and My God! It’s been three years (I think that’s the last time Pearl Jam played there). Crowd knew this song.
Eddie sounded like he was reading from a paper with God’s Dice, and he sounded like he was struggling during Once. They played Immortality, and there was a crowd embrace! Wishlist had extra wishes about Adelaide in the end. Many things rhyme with the aide in Adelaide. During Even Flow you can feel Matt’s energy the most. Even Mike took a while to get into it, but once he did it was fun to listen to. It would be great to listen to in a fast car. After Severed Hand I almost stopped listening to the bootleg but I persevered. The quality of the bootleg was good, but Eddie sounded not so strong more on that later. There was a chant Let Stone Sing! Three cheers for the crowd during Beds are Burning and War. Mikeness in Why Go. Given to Fly and Corduroy had some life. The encore took it up a notch. Eddie said I’m not sure where we are going to take you tonight, but we aren’t there yet. There was a revised version of No Woman No Cry for the new parents No Baby No Cry. I wonder if that song was cut off too fast. It ended abruptly. Crowd knew Better Man, but it’s still a little off. Crowd knew Black, which sounded tired, but there was a long call and response. Crowd kept the band honest. Life Wasted was around the time I wanted to hang the bootleg up and be done. I was starting to think of Eddie feeling bad in San Diego 06. Eddie said, Adelaide, you have been incredibly kind to this band in the past, and also tonight, and we thank you very much. There is a crowd embrace during Last Kiss.
Here comes Stone! Hey, Adelaide, thank you! And, I’ll sing for you . . . Thank you to Ed . . . he’s sicker than a dog . . he’s an amazing person.
Nice last ditch effort by Eddie for Baba O’Riley. He said, See you next time. Take care of each other. Thank you for taking care of us. Poor guy. I had a feeling he was sick. It must be hard to sing live while sick.
March 16: Orioles (11) – Nationals (3)
BRob Baseball
Brian played, and he hit a double! Go, Brian, Go! Go, Brian, Go! You can find the recap here. I would be nice if he went to the Cubs as they are in better position to compete, but anything better than this bright orange business.

Still catching up.
Pearl Jam Bootleg
Mexico City, Mexico, December 9, 2005. Download it from post #3 here. The bootleg started with the crowd singing and then into Animal. Myohmy what a fast beginning, eh? The first song gave me chills. Then quite a few songs that aren’t played often. Eddie spoke a little Spanish. Given to Fly was strong. During Even Flow it was obvious that the crowd was many deep. However, even though the bootleg captured the depth, it didn’t really capture the loudness throughout. I thought of the crowd noise as a wave undulating forward and back because I couldn’t grasp all of it at once through the bootleg.
Nice call and response in Not for You. There was a crowd embrace throughout Daughter.
Ok, this is why you download the bootleg. Really, need I say more
I have been looking forward to this bootleg because I have seen this youtube so many times. It still gives me chills, and it’s truly amazing. I have it on my Pearl Jam/Running blog. Not a smooth transition during this song. However, the crowd was amazing, and my eyes teared up – again.
There is a crowd embrace during Once. Betterman there is a nice loud crowd embrace and participation. In Rearview Mirror Eddie was a little weak. However, the instrumentals multi-solo was lava lamp music. Time to turn around and look at the waves of faces. Learn to be amazed and what fun/joy/goodwill music can add to life, if you didn’t know already.
Eddie said, It’s better than we remember. There is a nice chant by the crowd, not sure if it’s a particular song, but I’m missing something through the bootleg. Eddie said, You’ve gave us so much. Thank you. Crowd knows Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town with a nice song embrace which is evident in Last Kiss, also. Crowd sings, Hold me darling, just a little while. Production wise Eddie’s voice is too removed from the crowd, and the rest of the band. During Crazy Mary some of the parts the crowd was offered didn’t come through. However, Mike and Boom continued the conversation that everyone could understand. Crowd knows Alive. Mikeness! A lot of crowd enthusiasm during We Belong. Wave of crowd embrace during Jeremy. Eddie spoke a little Spanish about Green River. Mark Arm and Steve Turner come out for Kick Out the Jams. I wish I could see it live. Eddie said, You’re incredible! Crowd embrace during Yellow Ledbetter.
March 15: Orioles (6) – Marlins (7)

Here’s the recap. Here’s some blogging gossip.

I’m falling behind, and trying to catch up. Good thing it’s Spring Training, and like the teams I’m learning what I can do with what I have.
Pearl Jam Bootleg
Gorge at George, Washington, #1, July 22, 2006. You can download it from post #5 here. It started with a Lost Dog, always a good sign. The crowd noise wasn’t so prominent on the bootleg although I heard it was a great crowd. It had the bookends: Corduroy and Alive. I consider them bookends more than say Yellow Ledbetter or Rockin’ in the Free World as bookends. They just seem to match as an opening song and a closing song. Eddie’s voice sounded really good. Severed Hand grabbed my focus. It was 116 degrees and it’s hot like a mother ******!-Per Eddie. As a bonafide weather wimp those are words I never want to hear. Considering how good the concert was – talk about dedication on the parts of all parties, eh?
Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town was great to sing-a-long to even over a year later. Setlist Brought to you by a good friend of Mike’s Chris Adams. During Daughter there was a speech about the weather and the war in Iraq and Eddie said Will you help remind me? Into It’s Ok tag. For this song that tag had more meaning than say a great call and response. I’m not the biggest fan of Gone, but it’s a good song live. There was crowd intereaction in Black, and snippets throughout, but the crowd presence was not captured through the bootleg overall. Life Wasted sounded really good for 116 degrees. Intersteller Mikeness during Blood. Crowd embrace of Footsteps, great encore for crowd. I wonder if encore lists are created separate from the main setlist? Loud crowd embrace during Alive. Two Singles songs in a row with State of Love and Trust and Chloe Dancer. This Chloe Dancer dropped the energy of the concert. The band synergy was really good during Mike’s solo during Porch. That song was the concert. For a true hint of the crowd, it’s best to go to what Eddie says, I think you’re great. Don’t sell yourselves short. This has to be one of the better Seattle crowds. See, it’s the Gorge that’s good, not Seattle proper. Eddie remarked on how some songs were first recorded as ****** songs, and maybe that’s why they don’t play them so much. For the intro to Dirty Frank, he said, We’re going to play one for you right now.
One of the lyrics is Where’s Mike McCready! My God he’s been ate! Truly incredible lyrics
Mike’s best Little Wing at the end of Yellow Ledbetter.
March 10: Orioles (3) – Dodgers (4)
BRob Baseball
BRob stole bases! Yippee! Here’s more of the game recap. Here are rumors for March 10th.
Biscotti
Honey and Almond Biscotti – not bad for screwing up the recipe.
I accidentally added butter because I was previewing a different recipe. I was psyched to add butter because then I could use my hands to mix up the dry ingredients with the butter, like playing in a sand box. However, the recipe doesn’t call for butter, and the logs spread into each other during the first bake. I decreased the first bake to 350 degrees at 25 minutes and I decreased the second temperature to 275 at 20 minutes, and they seem pretty good. I can bring them up to my brother’s family tomorrow without a problem. Next time i’ll try it the correct way as this has a very nice flavor. I wouldn’t spread the egg on top even though the recipe calls for it. They end up too brown. At 375 they would be very brown and unappealing. I use silipat instead of parchment paper or greasing a pan. Usually, I can remove the silipat the instant the logs come out after the first baking. However, with this screwed up dough I should have waited just a few minutes. They cooled quickly enough that less of the final product would have been on the silipat instead of keeping with the dough. Man, try to type when a kitty is trying to sleep on the computer. It just pays to be stealth.
Pearl Jam Bootleg
Newcastle, Australia, November 19, 2006. You can download the boot here, in post #7. As far as production/engineering this is the best sounding bootleg so far. Also, the setlist was created by Mark Richards, and towards the end Eddie designated this concert the Triannual Newcastle Mark Richards Invitational.
Started with Alive, which is definitely mixing it up as Alive is usually one of the last 5 or so songs. Severed Hand had a great musical introduction. Because the production quality was so good I didn’t want to miss parts like I may when I’m baking. I restarted the CD at least 3 times. I have to start listening to PJ when I’m not baking. At work is a little better. There is a call back and response on Save You. The first note of Unemployable gets me ready for a rocker, but it doesn’t materialize. I like the song, but I think it’s a better CD song. During Daughter I heard some of the crowd embrace I referenced in other posts. Did Eddie forget the words to Do the Evolution or was he just being funny. I haven’t heard many screw ups, yet. Or maybe that’s when my dishwasher is on full volume so I wouldn’t notice
This is obviously not a Lost Dog crowd. Aha! Rearviewmirror still chosen before an encore. There is a lot of spoken love for the surfing. Nice crowd embrace during Master’s of War which is a groovy version. It’s not the most powerful rendition, but it reflects the soul quality of the concert, which is the reason this bootleg is recommended. If the production quality was less the grooviness of the concert would not have been as pronounced and the bootleg not as good. 3 people got 2277 signatures for Pearl Jam to play there. Grassroots at it’s best, eh?! Best version of Alone that I heard so far. Mike was loving Even Flow. The Little Wing at the end of Yellow LedBetter was great. Really good version. Eddie said, Feels more like a party than a concert!
You are what you eat
Three cheers for BRob! I don’t know if he means to support sustainable agriculture, or what, but I’d eat all organic if I could.
Unfortunately, what Kevin Millar said is right – I have to cut back on organic, but I won’t give up my organic Gala apples!
March 9: Orioles (7) – Marlins (3)
BRob Baseball
BRob didn’t play. You can find the recap here. Blogs, blogs everywhere! I’m glad there is broohaha regarding the BRob trade. If I couldn’t look for trade rumors, I’d have to pay more attention to the games
First, I would read the Orioles MLB Fan Forum page, then find a Pearl Jam fan who is a baseball fan, who can educate me on the good the bad, and the Are You for Real of baseball. I was a Yankees fan when they won the World Series in 1977. What else is there?
Biscotti
I couldn’t wait to try out this Parmesan Black-Pepper biscotti. It just SOUNDS great, doesn’t it. Just like something you want to put on the side of a salad, or use to sop up extra spaghetti sauce from a holiday meal. The recipe did not disappoint.
First, the black peppercorns. It sounds kindof elitist to include a step to process black peppercorns when it’s easier to buy black pepper. I did it anyway. I put the 1.5 TBL of black peppercorns in the food processor and next to nothing happened. The blade kept missing most of the peppercorns. Then I put in a handful, and I got a bingo! Even though many of the peppercorns were not processed, I just put what was in the food processor through a strainer and ended up with very nice black pepper spice; uniform in color, pungent, and fresh. When you add the butter to the dry ingredients, just use your entire hands to mix it up. It’s like playing in the sand box. I thought that to make the ingredients into the coarse meal size that I should only use my fingertips, and work them very fast. Eh, what’s the rush? Try the whole hand, and make sure it is a distance from you that will not hurt your wrists. Just go at it and have fun. The entire hand will melt the butter. I would recommend these.
Pearl Jam Bootleg
Philadelphia, October 3, 2005 aka Philly 05. Download from post #2, and expect greatness! This bootleg is brought to you by the letters M and E as in ME! This concert blew my mind! It was the 9th Pearl Jam show I’d seen, and it was the first time that I realized that Pearl Jam is a truly exceptional concert band. Before this show I would wait for the albums more than the concert tours. The first 6 shows I saw were in Seattle and not very remarkable. Remember Seattle is NOT the Gorge at George. Then I saw a couple in St. John’s Newfoundland which were enjoyable, but there you go. During this entire time my favorite concerts were a Bruce Springsteen concert and a Paul Simon concert. Then there was Philly ’05, and it was truly life altering – a baptism of sorts.
The setlist started with Wash. Wash is a Lost Dog. Again, what was the setlist creater thinking? He knew that the crowd was comprised of dedicated Pearl Jam fans that would be loyal enough to buy a Bsides Rarities album like Lost Dogs. Have you heard of Lost Dogs? I suggest you try it out, it’s a great addition to the Pearl Jam CD catalog. It’s apparent the show would be different from others just by starting with a Lost Dog. Brain of J was incredible! Eddie saying later We were waiting for you, too when they went into Given to Fly. As I was listening to the bootleg it was hard not to shout Yes! or Oh Yes! or Ohmygawd!, you know stuff like that. I don’t remember most of the concert, but I remember that it was excellent. This will probably be the only bootleg I transfer to my iPod shuffle.
EvenFlow had some crowd noise Yeah, and Eddie saying Red Rover Red Rover Let Mike McCready Take Over, and Mike flowed into fire. Yea crowd, go crowd go! More Eddie talk Well, that’s the Philadelphia we know and love right there. Also, We’re picking songs tonight that we don’t play every night. We’re just wondering if that’s what you want to hear. Answer YES! The men were present: Leatherman, Better Man, Nothingman. I don’t see how this concert couldn’t stand up to European concerts. I remember not knowing Bleed for Me either during the show or while listening to the bootleg. It was a gap in understanding then and now. The relationship between the band and the crowd could be explained with a metaphor: Say, you drive 3 states north for the summer home you bought a few years ago. You stay at this home for at least a month maybe 2 every summer. A few years before you moved in another person bought their summer home 2 doors down from you. They drive 3 states east to get there. Since the homes are relatively close together when there is a nice sunset, and you see the neighbor the next day on your daily walk you both bring it up. You don’t mix like relatives, but it’s a trust in the season, the time. This neighbor sees you and knows that summer has begun. This neighbor has been waiting all year for this time. You see your neighbor and you know that summer has began; it’s what you have been waiting for all year. That’s like the relationship I saw between Pearl Jam and Philadelphia that night.
I wish I could hear Harvest Moon live again. I remember that I disagreed with Eddie when he considered Mary in Crazy Mary crazy (she’s just misunderstood), but I forgot about the payback he received. Stone, you trooper!
There is a nice story from Eddie on how Philadelphia helped Last Kiss become famous, and consequently money was raised for Kosovo victims. Eddie introduced Do the Evolution as Leash. That funny man! hahahahahahahaha. I LoVE Rockin’ in the Free World and Yellow Ledbetter as endings.
If given the option of a last meal or a last listen to this bootleg before I deparated this life, I would take listening to this bootleg. Me, the one who bakes, and loves to eat. Yep, it’s that good!
March 8: Orioles (1) – Mets (4)
BRob Baseball
Brian played! Here’s a recap. Here’s more. I was listening to an audio clip from the Orioles site, and a MLB reporter assigned to the Orioles thinks Brian will definitely be traded before opening day. Just go to this page, and then scroll down to multimedia, and listen to Fordin on O’s health, Roberts.
Biscotti
Almond Apricot Biscotti – as I baked this recipe I realized some of my downfalls. One of which is that I give a recipe author the benefit of the doubt. I questioned mixing those quarters of dried apricot going in the dough. I thought they were too big, and as I folded over the dough I knew they were too big. But NO, I kept with it! I ended up throwing out the batch, because the chunks of apricots were too big, and I couldn’t in good conscience give them away. As you can see by the biscotti next to the BRob Bobblehead, they did not mix evenly because of the folding, and the pieces were too big.
This recipe had so much potential! I loved most of the method until the apricot part. It was so easy, but I would recommend that the apricots be processed, even until a goo. Or process them with the almonds and some of the flour mixture. Either way it’s has to be better than this way. Then add them to the dough in a mixer, so that they are really incorporated. I’m not a big fan of dried fruit chunks unless there’s a really good reason. Dried cherries in the previous chocolate recipe worked, but these apricots should be more of a blend than a feature. I still think it would have been a good taste, if the apricot taste was more evenly distributed. Forget the wax paper step, just divide in two logs with sizes as noted in the recipe after taking out of the mixer. It had a really nice secondary taste, like the aftertaste.
Pearl Jam Bootleg
Champaign, Illinois, April 23, 2003. You can download it here in post #8. Very interesting it started with Do the Evolution. As I wrote previously, the first song is a reflection of the setlist maker’s feel towards the concert. This was an quirky song to start with. Oddly enough when the new record is mentioned, it’s Riot Act. Oh my my this concert’s almost 5 years old! Technology – it’s crazy!
Corduroy continues to be a beginning song, and is always a good concert song with a nice Mike solo. In Dissident Eddie’s voice shines through very nicely. In Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town there is a nice audience participation, and recognition of the wonderful small towns in Illinois. EvenFlow rocks as always, nice audience participation at end of Jeremy. You Are is a great concert song. I like it better live. On the album I could take or leave it sometimes, but live it really fits. Eddie was sounding tired in I Am Mine. Mike sounded like he was shot from a cannon for Habit. Untitled is always a nice transition as if it’s time to drive down Lake Shore Drive. Right into MFC and Given to Fly which are my favorite songs, not my favorite live versions, though. Porch was on fire, with nice give and take between Eddie and the audience. I’m a fan of the Police, but Pearl Jam gave a nice turn to Driven to Tears. The Police sing the song like a statement, and Pearl Jam’s version is like a question, it’s enticing. The crowd sound embrace that I referenced in Lisbon #2 ’06 can be heard in Betterman, not as prominent, but still a nice feature to the presentation of the bootleg.
Crazy Mary was too slow and lifeless UNTIL BOOM . . . and MIKE. Boom was the wake-up and Mike was the soulfoul response. I like EvenFlow solos, but Crazy Mary always has good Mike solos. In fact the Mike solo rescued this song along with Boom. This may be my favorite Mike solo. The entire concert is brought to you by the letter M for Mike! If you are big on Mike solos, download this boot. Pearl Jam doesn’t seem to stray too much from originals by other artists. I don’t know Know Your Rights, but I’m assuming I wouldn’t like it just based on Pearl Jam’s rendition. Black is a little colorless, it sounds acoustic (?), but the crowd added mightily to it almost like a ghost wanting to feel again, and then there’s Mike adding the soul. Crowd was still at it in Baba O’Reilly.
